Gorilla in the Midst - Auditing to add value

Price: £395.00

Effective auditors don't miss the gorilla. Recent studies at Harvard University found that people can miss significant events when their attention is narrowly focused.

In one experiment, observers were asked to view a basketball game on screen, and to count the number of passes made by each team. The researchers then sent a person dressed in a gorilla suit to walk through the players for 8 seconds. Nearly all observers got the pass count right. But 50% missed seeing the gorilla. Effective auditors don't miss the gorilla in their midst!

As well as a resource for the development of new and exisiting auditors, it is also used for encouraging auditee awareness of the audit process. The role of an auditor of management systems has changed significantly and much more is expected of auditors. The trend is towards auditing outcomes for business improvement rather than auditing only for compliance. This is exemplified in new and revised international standards and in industry standards being adopted worldwide by business.

This contemporary video specifically shows how an auditor's performance is dependent on:

  1. The Audit Process - how to plan and structure an audit
  2. Personal Traits - having an insight into personality, desirable traits and dark side traits
  3. Power - which stems from business knowledge and experience
  4. Influence - the ability to build relationships, and the skills to rationally persuade and influence managers.
